Somatics is the practice of using your brain (awareness) to control your muscles (body).
What muscles actually turn on when you do an Airplane pose? Can those same muscles truly relaxed in a Child's pose? And most importantly for your health, can those muscles move easily between a state of effort and a state of ease?
Somatics teaches us greater control along the whole spectrum of movement and exercise. Come prepared for yoga class (lose clothing, open mind) and you'll be led through a series of exercises that ask you to sense your body and control small movements - it's more difficult than it sounds!
